Kreditech, the leading group for digital consumer lending using machine-learning based underwriting, today announced that founder and former CEO Alexander Graubner-Müller is stepping down from his operational role as a managing director. Going forward, he will support Kreditech as founder and shareholder while focusing on new opportunities as an investor and entrepreneur.
Graubner-Müller co-founded Kreditech with Sebastian Diemer in 2012. After initially acting as chief technology officer, he led the company as CEO from December 2015 until April 2018. Besides developing Kreditech’s core lending and credit scoring technology, Graubner-Müller successfully guided the company from startup to scaleup and expanded the business model and product portfolio to mainstream consumer finance. Under his leadership, Kreditech has grown to more than 850,000 customers, 400 employees and 70 million euros in annual revenue, while having secured more than 250 million euros in funding from leading investors around the world.
For the past eight months Graubner-Müller has been actively driving a complete transformation of Kreditech’s management team to prepare the company for its next phase of growth. “We appointed several new executives in 2018, including David Chan as CEO, ” states Graubner-Müller. “We’ve hired world-class experienced leaders in technology and financial services to take Kreditech to the next stage. With such an amazing leadership team in place, I feel it is the right time for me to fully pass on my duties to David and withdraw from the day-to-day operations of the company.”
“In the name of the shareholders and the board I would like to thank Alexander for his drive, his incredible dedication to the company and his tireless pursuit of Kreditech’s mission to improve access to credit for underbanked consumers around the world,” said Giles Andrews, chairman of the board, Kreditech. “We wish him all the best for his future endeavors.”
“The past six years have been an incredible ride,” Graubner-Müller continued. “From the moment we founded Kreditech until today, I’ve had the pleasure to work with exceptionally talented and driven people who not only share my passion for technology, data and machine learning, but also share my vision to change the status quo in financial services. The company is in better shape than ever and I’m excited about its next chapter.”
Going forward, Graubner-Müller will continue to support Kreditech as founder and shareholder while focusing on new opportunities as an investor and entrepreneur in fintech, artificial intelligence and emerging markets.
